On-Line Distance Education Program

The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.

-- Plutarch, Priest of the Delphic Oracle

Are you a qualified occupational therapist who wants to advance your understanding of how you can "enable occupation" in current and new practice areas? Do you want to advance your knowledge and skills? Challenge your assumptions about occupational therapy practice, research and theory? Are you also looking for a flexible, student-centred curriculum? We offer an innovative five (5) credit on-line distance education program that is focused on occupation and occupational therapy practice. You can enroll in either the Practice Leader Stream or the Research Thesis Stream on a full-time (may complete up to 5 full credits per year) or a part-time basis (may complete up to 2 ½ credits per year). For more information about the application process, click here.
Note: You must have regular and consistent access to the Internet to participate successfully in this program. You must also attend an on-site orientation in August of your first year.

Here’s what one graduate had to say:

The Dalhousie University's School of Occupational Therapy’s distance program allowed me to clarify and pursue interests developed during my 12 years of clinical experience. I participated in  the degree while having and raising my three children full-time, while also supporting my  frequently absent partner in a career that moved us every one to two years. It was a satisfying  experience that built on my clinical work. The program showed me how systems and processes  affect clinical practice, and how to effect change in clinical settings, something that I had puzzled  over for many years as a clinician. It was not easy to meet the demands of my family while  responding to the academic requirements of the course work. The instructors were understanding  and approachable, but also challenged me to meet the demands of the program. Understandings  of my personal limits were reset, and confidence and skills acquired. The result has been a desire  to go on, and I have now applied for entry into a PhD program. I feel my engagement as a participant in the profession of occupational therapy has improved, and this has been a truly satisfying outcome.
