The School of Occupational Therapy (OT) would like to recognize the involvement of first year OT student, Angie Selig, in the Health Mentor appreciation event held on April 3, 2012. The Health Mentor Program is an innovative interprofessional learning experience that involves small groups of students learning from a Health Mentor, a community volunteer who is living with a chronic condition or disability. During this year-long program, interprofessional teams of students meet with a Health Mentor three times to learn about their life story and chronic condition journey, the impact of their chronic condition on their life and their experience of collabortive practice in the health care system.
On April 3, a Health Mentor Appreciation event was organized by the program coordinator, Susan Nasser, to say thank you for the contributions of the Health Mentors to this program. Health Mentors share their time and experience with students with the hope of giving back and improving the health care system by influencing students early in their programs. Angie Selig was one of two students who volunteered to share their student perspective and to thank the mentors. Angie spoke of valuing the time spent with her Health Mentor and how this experience reinforced the concept of client-centredness that is central in OT education.
The School of Occupational Therapy would like to add their thanks to all the Mentors who volunteered and to Angie for sharing a health-felt thank you at the event.
The School of Occupational Therapy is very pleased to announce that Dr. Joan Versnel has been named this years' recipient of the Faculty of Health Professions Early Career Research Excellence Award. This award was established to recognize outstanding research that leads to significant
